A mouthguard, which, like bandages or boxing gloves, is a very important part of boxing equipment, is a flexible plastic object worn over the teeth to protect against various sports injuries.

Mouthguards are used not only in boxing, but also in other sports where not only body contact, but also falls and thrown objects are expected. Tooth protectors prevent and mitigate damage to the soft tissues of the mouth and teeth, preventing injury and bruising of the lips and cheeks.

A mouthguard is a mandatory piece of equipment and an athlete must not train or compete without one. This strictness in the use of a mouthguard is not accidental. Its use is more than justified and reasonable, as confirmed by practice: the mouthguard helps to stabilise the jaw; prevents lacerations in the face and mouth area; directly and effectively protects the jaw and teeth; prevents possible interruption of airflow to the trachea blocked by a knocked-out tooth.
